My day started like any other day. I arrived at my save location and pondered what I should do first. I haven't been fishing in a long while so I decided I would do just that. Everything seemed so simple that day. (I had no idea what was in store for me that day). After a little while of fishing by a small lake a little Taru Taru came up to me and asked me something. Oliver was a White Mage Taru Taru that lived in Japan and is having some fun on his first day. The only problem was that he wanted to go to Sandoria to see his friend that was an Elvaan that said they should meet up there. I had no idea why this kid was in Bastok, but I guess it really didn't matter to me at the time.
Well, I was thinking about going to Sandoria that same day after I was done fishing, but that would have been a much easier journey since I have a Chocobo. Now, this Taru wants me to escort him all the way over on foot, for free. I told him to go get some supplies for himself with the money he had while I think about what we will do while I am fishing. About 20 minutes later he comes back with everything he needed, or that's what he told me.
I start by telling him that this is hopeless. It's way too far away. We would have to run many kilometers then ride a ship then run some more. He looked at me with his little taru face and asked if we could try anyway. /sigh. I said yes, why not.
I start by telling him how we will handle things and what's going down. He agreed to listen to me the entire way over.
Now, most of you right now are probably thinking to yourselves, "Why is he making this so damn serious? It's just a game and he is only going from one city to another." I can answer that question very easily. A trip on foot from Bastok to Sandoria is no f***ing cake walk. It takes hours of effort and strategy. After so long your thumb starts to hurt from pressing up in the analog, your eyes start to burn from staring at the screen and your mind starts playing tricks on you because you have been trying to stay alive hours on end.
Now, I must say. I am a pretty strong guy. I won't go down too easily if there are a few small monsters or one large one, but if there are a few large ones then we are in trouble. Especially if we journey for hours and we die and have to start all over again.
Back to the story. At this point we have been running for about 2 hours. We have dodged monsters, fought a few, and have stayed alive. So far. The best plan of defense is to use other players as shields. Especially galkas. lol. Just kidding. So, we're running and running and running and all of a sudden I see something in the distance. A large monster that seemed to tower over the rest. I don't remember what exactly it was, but it scared the s*** out of me. Imagine running for that long without seeing too many interesting things and all of a sudden this monster is right in front of you.
I tell the little Taru to run to the right around the hill over there and I will run to this field to the left to distract him long enough for the little taru to keep running and make it to the city. He agrees and says good luck. I nod and start on my way. When i was about 30 meters into this field the monsters locks on to me and starts moving my way. That's when I really start running. I press the analog stick up as hard as I can hoping that Aikuen will run a little faster. It's no use. The monster catches up and I am there to fight. I take out my broad sword and start cutting into this guy. He hits me once and 1/3 of my life is gone. I think to myself that this is hopeless. I won't make it out alive. I keep thinking while i try to kill this beast that I did a good thing today. I helped a newbie taru get across the true hell itself to his friend, which is usually impossible.
Right after that next thought who do I see coming in the distance. The little Taru Taru.. He came back to help me. I started yelling at him. "What the f*** are you doing kid! RUN!!!!" Right when he hears that he casts cure on me to give me some life and the beast turns around and kills him in one good, clean hit.
I was so f***ing mad at him. But I felt really sorry at the same time. That's when I went crazy on the monster. Fighting as hard as I could. Evading most of his attacks and hitting him as hard as possible. It didn't help. After about 4 more good blows I was dead. Laying there. Right next to the taru. I told him sorry. And he said the same. I returned to the save location with my heart pounding and my character down some exp.
I grinned, picked up my fishing pole. And got back to work.
