NEW FF AND DRAGON QUEST ON XBOX 360?

Square Enix president on Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX's possible multi-platform future

11:21 Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, has indicated it's possible that Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX will appear on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in an interview with Yahoo/Reuters of Japan.

Once considered a one-platform company during Nintendo's NES and SNES days, Squaresoft (before it became Square Enix) offended the mighty Yamauchi-san by betraying his company in aligning with Sony for the excellent Final Fantasy VII on PSOne.

Angered by this chasing of the green, Yamauchi is said to have banned Squaresoft from their offices and the companies didn't kiss and make up until several years later.

Now with Enix and Square as one and Nintendo choosing to offer a different experience in the next generation with a new Crystal Chronicles game announced, it seems that Microsoft and Sony will be sharing the fruits of Square Enix's big budget labours. Or so it would seem.

For all we know this could be a subtle challenge to both Sony and Microsoft to get with the cash and make a play for the exclusive rights. Or it's just as cut and dry as "you'll see both DQ9 and FF13 on X360 and PS3".

Square couldn't be reached for comment at time of going to press. As ever though, we'll keep you posted.

Tuo kyllä olisi jotakin todella hienoa. Harmi, että MGS4 on kuitenkin vielä PS3:n yksinoikeuspeli, muuten voisin harkita X360:n hankintaa erittäin vakavasti.

Juu-u, onneksi MS alkaa ottamaan hyötyö Square-diilistään Squaren parhaalla pelisarjalla. Jotenkin olen osannut aavistellakkin tämmöistä, että Finalit alkavat leviämään X360:lle. Kelpaa hyvin.

Saisivat vain julkaista niitä vanhojakin samalla, jotta voisi taas pelata niitä. Ei ole pleikkaa enään, eikä noita pelejä nyt oikein muuten saa, kuin että ne julkaistaan uudestaa uudelle laitteelle, tai sitten pitäs ostaa jostain joku vanhan ruoska-pleikka, mitä en todellakaan ajatellut tehdä.

Eli Sqarelle pyyntö: Julkaiskaa vanhat (VII-X2) Boxille, jotta Wanha pääsee niitä vielä pelaamaan.

Uskoisin, että tuo riippuu täysin siitä, kuinka hyvin XO menestyy Japanissa. Enkä kyllä jaksa uskoa, että se menestyisi. XO menestyy tälläkin kertaa parhaiten Pohjois-Amerikassa, varsinkin kun julkaisulistalla on pelkkää urheilua ja toimintaa, millä ei todellakaan voiteta Japania puolelleen. Jos jonkin ihmeen kaupalla XO menestyy Japanissa, voi olla melko varma siitä, että viimeisin Viimeinen Fantasia ja Lohikäärmeseikkailu tulevat tulevaisuudessa myös Billboxille. Jonkun verran riippuu myös FFXI:stä, jos se menestyy edes kohtalaisesti, on suurempi todennäköisyys, että tulevaisuudessakin laatikolla voi nauttia Squeenixin peleistä.

EDIT: Jaahas, nyt tuo on paljastunut, että FF ja DQ eivät ole tulossa XO:lle.

ORIGINAL STORY: Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has mentioned the possibilities of bringing their star RPG franchises onto several next-generation platforms, but just as the information starts to clear up, more reports are coming out that Wada's speaking on the same subject yet again.

According to a Reuters Japan report, during an interview, Wada mentioned that next-generation Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy could end up on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and that we should know more about the company's policy on multi-platform development by next year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

There are several possibilities here. There could be a mistranslation (we're currently contacting Square Enix), Wada could simply be conjecturing and his comments are being blown out of proportion, or he's referencing Square Enix's plans for online gaming, which would make more sense considering Final Fantasy XI's appearance on Xbox 360.
